I began my music avocation at the age of 6, studying
piano. Of course, I hated practicing and had to be cajoled into it
until about the age of 15. I later began studying flute and woodwinds
around age 12. I have had quite a bit of college music training,
but never quite got into it as a profession. Never say never, though...
From 1993 through 1996, I was a member of the Port Townsend Orchestra in
Port Townsend, Washington, where I played flute, piccolo piano and harpsichord,
probably one of the most rewarding experiences to date. I was also
a member of the Port Townsend Wind Band and the Richard K. Call Woodwind
Quintet during the same period. I regularly compose many styles of
music for different soloists and ensembles (usually for instruments that
I play), but my favorite styles are Baroque and Classical. I have
recently begun studying organ and music by J. S. Bach, Charles-Marie Widor
and Dietrich Buxtehude. I can listen to many types of music, but
seem to fall into the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and early
contemporary periods as my music of preference. I enjoy listening
to new types of music, as well.
Currently, I am involved in a community jazz band in Brighton, Michigan,
playing piano and woodwinds.
